A good friend of mine gave me this cabinet {yes I know I am a luck girl} and I added some of my favorite things on top and inside but every time I walk past it, I keep thinking should I paint it? I love the lines of it and sometimes it seems so heavy and dark....what do you think? Maybe creamy white or grey?

First, I'd try freshening it up with something like New Life for Wood and see if the lighter fresher look doesn't maybe do it for you. If it doesn't, then maybe paint it. It's a beautiful cabinet, so either way, it will be awesome.
Good luck,
Judy

I like the darker color so that there is a contrast between it and your pretty white pieces. I recently painted my dining table white and then hated it because it was too light and nothing looked on it except flowers.. the doilies didn't show up, none of my white baskets or vases. So I got an itch to paint it a sort of dark aqua color and now I LOVE all my light colored things against it. Maybe if you put some decorative paper in the back, like old sheet music or vintage wallpaper, it'd seem fresher?? I love the piece...

Lori, I love your 'new' old cabinet. It's beautiful. I don't think I'd paint it...but you know what, I think you should trust your own instincts...bet you really know what you'd like to do, but want confirmation. I say please YOURSELF and go for it. Everything you do turns out beautifully! I haven't commented since your move, but read each post. I know you are happy there! pat

I love it, and I say paint it, add vintage crystal knobs, and make the inside a contrasting color (or just darker shade of neutral), or add vintage wallpaper so your white vases still pop. Xo suzanne

Oh yes, I would paint it for sure! But I love most furniture painted so I'm a bit biased! It would look fabulous in white or grey!

That is a beautiful cabinet. Grey with glass knobs, I say!

I have one very similar and often think of painting it. But it is in such nice condition that I'm afraid of destroying the value of it of the antique. What do u think?

Hi Lori! I just saw this piece in the new Cottage Style magazine painted white! I like it white because it seems easier to see the details and the items inside but look for yourself! It is a beautiful piece either way, I would love it for my home!
It is on page 96. I can't wait to see what you decide! karen...

Hi Lori, I really like your idea of painting it creamy white and then add vintage wall paper to the back and finally colored doilies (paper or fabric)hanging along the front of the shelves so your white pieces will show up more clearly. It is very beautiful now, but I do think lightening the piece up somehow would be refreshing! Best of luck to you!

Interesting! My sis gave me one beautiful cabinet recently and I am having the same problem. Should I paint or not? But I am following the advice I give:-If the piece is in good condition keep it the way it is or try to sand and refinish it again. The blue or white pieces look great on wood. But I understand your question. I am the same way. And I have not followed my own advice in the past. And I did not regret it. An I probably will paint my cabinet in the future. :-)
