A couple months ago my Mom gave me some old "junk" so to speak from my Grandfather. She gave me a a metal box with a ring of old keys from when he was a police officer in Detroit. I was immediately drawn to this key and I decided to make a long necklace out of it.
This one is a work in progress and I am not done yet, but I love how it says his name. I wonder what he is thinking in heaven that I am wearing his keys and old name tag around my neck?

That is so cool. I have a bunch of old odds and ends for my great grandfather and grandfathers. I'll have to dig it all out and look at it with new eyes. I have also been lucky enough to have my great grandfather's cameras. They mean a lot to me and now decorate my craft room, actually a lot of my great grandfather's stuff decorates my craft room. He was a wood worker and made the china hutch and dry sink that I store all my crafting stuff in, a vintage brief case that he converted into a camera case and his old tool box from work holds my vintage emphera. He and I were very close. I look at the items and remember him fondly. He would think it was neat that I'm using his stuff. He was very supportive of everything I did and currently do.

You're so lucky to have something from your grandfather. I have a box my mom's dad painted and I don't believe there's anything else from him anywhere. You made a beautiful piece out of a simple key.

That key is soo cool. I bet your Grandfather would be tickled that you love these things so much and want to commemorate him in your own way. I wear my Grandpa's ID bracelet some time and have a box of some of his old things too.
