I just love silk (don't we all?) and when I found this lovely floral folder (yes...the folder is silk too) filled with silk hankies, I knew I had to have it. Originally, I was going to turn this into a journal but for now I will keep it exactly the way it is. It is just to pretty!
A while ago, my Mom gave me her old religious cards from when she was a little girl and as well as some from my Grandmother. I come from a very traditional Catholic family and religious cards are very big with my Mom's family. My Grandma would have all of her religious cards saved in a empty shoebox and she would pull them out and show me. I am such a good Catholic girl, I always carry my Grandma's religious card with me in my wallet. That was just something she told me to do when I was younger and it stuck. I am sharing these cards with you because I am not trying to talk about religion, but I want to show you the beautiful images on the cards. I think I need to create some sort of journal to store them. A lot of them are in Polish and I have no clue what they are saying but I recognize the names of my Grandma's siblings on the back. The cards below were my Mom's in grade school and they were smaller than they are now. I love how she wrote her name on the back and her old address.
My girls and I did a little cleaning around the house trying to get somewhat organized and we turned this mess.....(All of my kids art work that I have saved over the past year).
Into these journals to display their favorite artwork....
It was fun to go through all of the artwork with them as they picked out their favorites to keep. I usually make one journal for each school year and I needed to get ready for the new year ahead. OMG, there is nothing better when you pick up your child and they are wearing a handmade hat.....I love it!
I used medical files as the base and covered them with vintage wallpaper and embellished with some vintage linens. My oldest daughter, Olivia helped me secure the art inside the journal using a hole punch. This is a very easy project for you to do.
I am going to have to cut this post short....Miss Lucy is sitting on my lap and as you can imagine, it is not working to my benefit.
I added these sweet petite shadow boxes to my Etsy shop this afternoon. I used vintage millinery flowers and silver glass glitter (the kind that tarnishes naturally) and paper ruffles to adorn them. My favorite part is the chiffon that lies on top of the shadowbox to protect the image. I made two of each and it is killing me to sell them. I love how they turned out. I was originally planning on a big Etsy update but I am tired of tripping over these in my craft room and my progess on my other projects is going a bit slow. So....this is all I have now for an update. Sorry!
P.S. Is anyone else having trouble with spell check? Mine never seems to work anymore, so sorry in advance for all of the mispelled words.
I found these great vintage hangers at a flea market and I thought they would be perfect to use in my collages. This one was a test so I could work out the kinks. My plan is to make another one for my Etsy update that I have planned in the near future. I love the soft pale look of it and now I just need to find the time to make another one. Lots of great ideas and no time! I am sure you feel the same way.
This morning while Lucy slept and my girls were at their skating lessons, I was working on a couple of projects for a Etsy update. (My poor little shop is NEVER stocked....I know, I am working on it). I was zipping along with my sewing machine and some how my image got stuck in the machine and instead of throwing it away...I used the ripped image to make a tag. I covered up the rip with a scrap piece of lace. So, my lesson to you is never throw away any scraps, you never know when they might come in handy or they may turn into something great.
A couple of week ago I received an email asking me a question about a swap I am hosting for Silver Bella and to make a long story short..... come to find out, her parents live four miles from me and she was planning a visit. I never ever get any Bella's coming to visit Arkansas. Bryanna came over last night and we were able to talk about crafting and Silver Bella. How fun is that? I look forward to connecting with her again because it is so nice to meet someone who gets you and no worrying about having to explain why you have a tulle skirt as a lampshade in your family room. You get my point....I am sure many of you feel the same way. Here is a photo of the two of us.
I am to go hang out with the kiddos. Have a great Saturday.
The first thing when I come home from work, my little ladies put on my shoes and walk around the house and pretend to be me. It makes my heart happy to see my little girls wear my shoes. I know one day they will not think their mom is cool and will not want to be like me.....so I will soak it all up while I can.
Note....if you are wondering why I wore flip flops to work, I went to a baseball game. How about me, I caught the home run ball. Funny uh?
I am so bummed.....I am not able to go to my cousins wedding next month. I really wanted to give her something special to remember her big day so I decided to make a collage to frame her beautiful invitation. I hope she likes it.
I have been going through my collection of vintage images because I am hosting a vintage paper swap for Silver Bella and I was trying to get them some what organized. Here are a few of my favorites that I apparently forgot about...I know shame on me. There is noting like having the original image vs. a photo copy, don't you agree?
Do you think after all of these years we have been married that I some how rubbed off on my husband? Look at these lovely presents and just look how pretty they are wrapped. These are my birthday presents (that I finally get to open tonight) from my husband and girls. Hmmm...I wonder what they are? They make me happy to just look at them. There is nothing better than receiving a present that is nicely wrapped....don't you agree?
Speaking of pretty things....I was so lucky to be asked to join Natasha's fabric cuff exchange. She and I were partners and her bracelet is simply gorgeous and I am SO LUCKY to have it. I am going to wear it to work tomorrow and I planned my outfit around it and I am sure NOBODY will get it but it will make me happy to wear it. She is an excellent sewer, she hand sewed all of those beautiful bits and bobs. I would gave up after sewing the first one on. Again.....thanks so much Natasha, I really do love it!
I am off to get ready for dinner, I making crab cakes with fresh dill, white corn on the grill and for dessert, chocolate covered strawberries. Can you say yum??? Have a great night.
